About the Event

RATING | PG-13

Genre: Theatre

“The Appointment" is a solo show that delves into the deeply personal and largely stigmatized experience of abortion as an essential aspect of healthcare. We meet Lena just after she has learned that the baby she has been eagerly anticipating for 17 weeks no longer has a heartbeat. It tells a story of the loss of a wanted pregnancy made more painful simply by the obstacles built in to our healthcare system. Through a compelling first-person narrative -- filled with humor and heart -- the performance aims to highlight the lived experience of women accessing healthcare, spark conversations, and foster empathy for the individuals who have to navigate this confusing process made so much worse for our society’s standing toward women. It is our experience that audiences really want to talk after seeing this show. Our goal is to move the needle to improve the state of care for women in America. Statistics don't tell the story. Stories tell the story.
