About the Event

Genre: Dance

This show is still a work in progress and the final result will likely be a bit different, but so far my plan is that this show will be a contemporary solo ballet with experimental groundbreaking choreography that challenges traditional ballet movement and what music a ballet can be set to. The tone of the show will vary in seriousness throughout depending on the mood and themes of the song. Some sections will be playful and light, others will have a more serious and ruminative quality. One of the central songs I plan the show to revolve around is "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the Beatles, the dance to which is about raising awareness about human trafficking and abuse, causes I'm hoping to somehow tie into this show more deeply, perhaps by getting a local organization involved. I plan to have a good variety of different music genres and artists, including the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, George Harrison, and Billy Joel. My hope is to present a modern ballet interpretation of the overall attitude of the 70s, a decade that resonates with my soul and this show is a deep exploration of that. To me, the 70s were a time of love, freedom, activism, and simpler times, before the internet and social media took over society. I'm hoping to capture this spirit through very expressive and original dance movement and the use of my signature props--a scarf, chair, and possibly a messy food ending like I've done in the past (I will keep you updated if messy clean-up will be a part of the show!). In terms of logistics, I imagine this show will run about 45-50 minutes and I will need to perform on a surface suitable for pointe shoes, preferably one of the stages available to performers. I don't have any thoughts on lighting yet, but will probably want to play with color a little bit.
